Having two pre-approved adults and one short script removes confusion and speeds up the release process. What to do: Save this as a phone note/text template: “Hi, this is [Parent]. I’m safe and heading to [School/Daycare]. If I can’t arrive, [Alternate 1] or [Alternate 2] is approved to pick up [Child]. Meet-Up Hierarchy Why this matters: Named places end the “Where are you?” spiral and make movement predictable. Set your sequence: Home: front sidewalk by the mailbox/building entrance. Building spot: for apartments, the far corner of the parking lot Neighborhood landmark: library lot or a trusted friend’s porch Out-of-area fallback: relative’s home in another townTip: Walk through each once and print them on your wallet cards, so you’re relying on memory and not trying it out for the first time during an emergency. Transport Contingencies Why this matters: Commutes change; vehicles and routes do, too. Plan alternatives before the grid gets messy. What to do: List who can pick up which child from which site. Note one transit option and two safe walking routes from school to home/meet-up. If alternates lack car seats, stash a compliant, compact backup in their trunk.
