EcoQue Portable Grill - Copyright Your Family Ark LLCIt is five o’clock on a winter afternoon. Suddenly the power goes out in your home. It does not take very long before you realize that you cannot make dinner. The outage may only last a few hours. Cold sandwiches will work for tonight. But what if it should last for days, weeks, or longer? What will you do? Are you ready?

In this chapter, we focus on alternative energy solutions for cooking. We discuss a variety of fuel options along with cooking devices and methods. It is important to have a backup plan or a series of options so that no matter what the scenario, you will be able to take care of yourself and your family. For instance, if you must stay indoors because you are sheltering-in-place, you will need a different set of options than if you have the ability to cook outdoors. A Camp Chef and 20 pound propane tank would be difficult to take in an evacuation scenario. Develop a strategy that will ensure you are able to cook in several different types of emergency situations including evacuation, indoor, outdoor, summer, winter, etc. Always put safety first!
